Shaving Brush

For an exhibition entitled “A Brush With Design”, we were commissioned by Good Thing and Harry’s to revisit the archetypal shaving brush.

We felt that the act of shaving is both ceremonial and cleansing, and sought to explore forms that reflected this ritual in their sculptural and ergonomic qualities. The brush is informed by soft utility; with round shaping that is as considerate of the human hand as it is of the peaceful nature of the shaving ritual. The shape of the brush then informs the base, which doubles as a bowl for shaving cream. While the forms recall everyday objects like the light bulb, which requires a similar hand motion, they also recall stones found in a river, washed smooth.
